Readers of ISBE’s new e-magazine will notice that it is a significant departure from the quarterly newsletter Small Business Issues. The drive behind Enterprising Matters is to do what ISBE does best; provide a platform for the latest innovative thinking and be at the centre of contemporary debate in the entrepreneurial field.

To this end each issue concentrates on a particular theme or subject area and looks at how the topic has evolved, who’s involved and what’s going on. This issue centres on ‘Gender and Entrepreneurship’ and is packed with a wide variety of articles and data from key academics, practitioners and policy makers as well as putting the spotlight on some of today’s most inspiring entrepreneurs.

To take care of the news element we now have a separate monthly bulletin where members can keep up to date with the latest news, information and up coming events as well as sharing their own news with our readers. This has allowed us to replace the newsletter with something very different, our new e-magazine Enterprising Matters.

Enterprising Matters is one of a number of exciting new changes taking place within ISBE as it continues in its period of evolution and growth. ISBE members will become increasingly aware of these developments over the coming months; seeing enhanced membership benefits, a new ISBE website coming soon and original new features and ideas built into the Conference structure which will be demonstrated at this year’s event in Liverpool.

This magazine aims to stimulate debate and challenge our readers’ perceptions and boundaries. We hope that you won’t keep quiet about it either and take the opportunity to join the debate in our corresponding website area. We welcome our members’ involvement in the publication, whether it be writing an article, commenting on our pieces or letting us know what you think about Enterprising Matters and whether there is anything you have a burning desire to write or read about.

Chris Dillon, my associate editor, has played a vital role in the production of this issue as have all the contributors, I thank them all. We hope that you enjoy reading our first issue of Enterprising Matters and look forward to your feedback.
