Geoff Whittam is a reader in entrepreneurship at the University of the West of Scotland. He has written widely on Regional, Industrial and Small Firm issues, contributing several journal papers, reports and book chapters. Recently, on behalf of the Scottish government, with colleagues in Paisley Enterprise Research Centre (PERC), he has undertaken a study into the problems facing Scottish SMEs in securing bank finance.
He is a long term collaborator with Stuart Paul into issues surrounding the informal investment market. His other current research interests include community buy-outs in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland and issues surrounding social entrepreneurship.
