Robert Smith

Dr Robert Smith (MA, PhD) is an early career researcher at Aberdeen Business School, The Robert Gordon University. He gained his MA at Aberdeen University in 1997 and his PhD by research at the Robert Gordon University in 2007.

Robert has eclectic research interests in entrepreneurship; criminology; policing studies; leadership; and in small and family business. Of specific interest is female entrepreneurship; criminal entrepreneurship; and rural entrepreneurship.

Robert favours qualitative research methodologies and in particular semiotics, narrative and social constructionism. He is developing a publication record in both entrepreneurship and criminology in journals and book chapters. He recently edited a special edition of IJEI – ‘Entrepreneurship at the margins’.

Robert is a member of the British Society of Criminology, and is events secretary of the Scottish section of the organisation. He has been a member of a local community council, and is a director of two social enterprises.
