The need to publish in good quality peer reviewed journals has always been critical for academics to progress their careers. In recent years however, an added imperative to publish in such journals has arisen from successive Research Assessment Exercises (now the Research Excellence Framework). In turn, there is increasing pressure upon journal editors to assess a growing volume of submissions and to ensure a fair and comprehensive review system. The road to publication is difficult for all academics but particularly so for early career researchers with limited experience in the process. Thus, the purpose of this workshop is to enable those seeking to publish their research to meet with the editors of three leading entrepreneurship journals (Entrepreneurship, Theory and Practice; International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research and the International Small Business Journal) in order to discuss, debate and explore how to develop good quality papers.

This workshop is particularly aimed at those who are completing their doctoral studies and Early Career Researchers but all are welcome. The meeting will be structured around short formal presentations from Professor Sara Carter (ETP), Professor Ossie Jones (IJEBR) and Professor Susan Marlow (ISBJ) but will then break out into small, informal round table discussions which will each be headed by one of the editors plus other senior scholars from Leeds Business School. This informal format will enable participants to interact with the editors whilst discussing issues of relevance and concern such as:

•    Identifying journals to target
•    Structuring a paper
•    Developing succinct and apposite literature analyses
•    Methodological approaches
•    Responding to the dreaded ‘so what’ question
•    Completing revisions and resubmissions
•    Coping with rejection

The intention of this workshop is to explore the publication process so that participants gain confidence to develop an informed and strategic approach to their future research and writing aims and objectives.
