The ISBE Practice & Impact SIG and the University of Sunderland in London are proud to present AI in Research: Bursting Myths, Leveraging Strengths, a collaborative half-day event bringing together diverse researchers to explore the opportunities, limitations, and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in research.
As AI tools become increasingly embedded in academic practice, researchers are faced with both exciting opportunities and important questions. How can AI support research productivity and impact? Where should boundaries be drawn? How can researchers harness AI strategically while maintaining ownership, integrity, and critical judgement throughout the research process?
This event has been designed to provide practical insights, stimulate discussion, and encourage informed engagement with AI. Through a series of keynote presentations and interactive discussions, participants will explore how AI is influencing academic publishing, research development, ethics, and scholarly practice.
The event features three expert speakers who will explore AI from complementary perspectives. Professor Seun Kolade will discuss the role of AI in academic publishing and research development, including a demonstration of his research-trained AI tool, ROSAR. Dr Yashar Salamzadeh will examine the ethical use of AI in research, focusing on academic integrity, transparency, and responsible adoption. Professor Ainurul Rosli will conclude with a session on how researchers can use AI strategically while maintaining ownership, critical judgement, and leadership throughout the research process.
Alongside the keynote presentations, participants will have opportunities for networking, discussion, and knowledge exchange with colleagues from across the research community. The event reflects the Practice & Impact SIG’s commitment to connecting research with practice and fostering conversations that generate meaningful impact beyond academia.
