2:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Over the past 15 years, since the global financial crisis and through Brexit and pandemic, the development of local enterprise support across the devolved regions and nations of the UK might be characterised as one of missed opportunity. Lines of governance and responsibility have been confusing, policy objectives contested, and resources scarce. An innovative and productive base of small and medium enterprises is critical for inclusive growth at the local level. But how should local policies and strategies, and the institutions charged with their delivery, achieve this?
The recent change of government in Westminster offers the opportunity for a policy and governance reset. How can consensus formation and marshalling of available resources come about, and how can stronger dialogue between researchers, policymakers and business support ecosystem actors be achieved?
This special ISBE session, convened by Professors Steve Johnson and Andrew Henley, ahead of our main 2024 conference will bring together experts from these fields to hear from different perspectives and to kick start the conversation.
