Effective Journal Reviewing | Professor Paul Jones and ECR Forum

  •  7th July 2026
     11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Building on our May session with Dr James Cunningham, which introduced the principles of peer review for grant applications and how to get involved with ISBE’s review processes,  this next session in the series turns its focus to journal reviewing.

Professor Paul Jones will guide participants through what effective journal reviewing looks like in practice: why it matters, what editors and the academic community expect, and how to approach a review with confidence and rigour. Journal reviewing is not only a core element of academic service,  it is also a genuine career development opportunity, opening doors to reviewing prizes, editorial board positions, and roles as a journal editor.

Whether you are brand new to journal reviewing or looking to sharpen your approach, this session offers practical insight to help you engage with the process meaningfully and professionally.
