Overview
Research papers often take months of development before fundamental weaknesses become apparent. Drawing on principles of lean entrepreneurship, this interactive masterclass introduces the concept of the Minimal Viable Paper as a practical framework for generating, testing, and developing research ideas more efficiently.
Participants will explore how to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset towards research, use structured ideation techniques to generate high-quality paper ideas, and rapidly prototype a paper using the Research Design Canvas. The session will also consider how to manage research as a portfolio, enabling participants to evaluate, prioritise, and make informed decisions about which projects to pursue, adapt, or discontinue.
Participants will gain:
- A practical framework for generating and rapidly prototyping research ideas
- Experience using the Research Design Canvas to develop a paper concept
- Techniques for validating research assumptions early in the writing process
- Strategies for evaluating and managing a portfolio of research projects
- Greater confidence in prioritising, refining, or pivoting research ideas
