Unveiling the Complexity of Small Firms: A Lecture by Professor Paul Edwards Reflecting on 20 Years of CREME Research

  •  9th May 2024 - 12th May 2024
     8:00 am - 5:00 pm

This year marks a major milestone for CREME at Aston University – our 20th anniversary. Two decades ago, CREME embarked on a journey with a clear mission: to bring the challenges and opportunities of ethnic minority entrepreneurship into the spotlight, not just within academic circles but in the broader public discourse and policy-making arenas. The Centre’s journey from a fledgling ‘start-up’ to becoming an internationally-recognised authority on diversity and entrepreneurship is a testament to the dedication, resilience, and innovative spirit of the team.

As we commemorate this milestone, CREME are thrilled to unveil the ‘Trailblazer’ series – a suite of keynote lectures designed to highlight the breadth and depth of CREME’s research influence over the years. These lectures will spotlight crucial areas such as the sociology of work in small firms, access to finance, supplier diversity, and inclusive business support, reflecting our holistic approach to tackling systemic barriers faced by ethnic minority entrepreneurs.

Join CREME for their first ‘Trailblazer Talk’ on Thursday 9th May 12:00-15:00 at Aston Business School as they host a guest lecture with Prof Paul Edwards, a distinguished scholar in Industrial Relations from the University of Birmingham, Prof Edwards’ pioneering work has significantly influenced CREME’s approach to understanding the complex dynamics of small firms, especially those led by ethnic minorities. His insights challenge stereotypes and deepen the comprehension of the socio-economic and political landscapes influencing these businesses.

This talk will shed light on the complexities of workplace social relations, showcasing the importance of economic relations while navigating the multifaceted influences of ethnicity.
