“Engage! Entrepreneurial ecosystems need evidence and ideas more than ever – So how can researchers influence policy and practice?

Chair: Professor Kiran Trehan

Keynote speakers

  • Reflections from the Engaged Scholarship Learning Lab – Professor Julia Rouse
  • Learning from the Enterprise Research Centre – Professor Stephen Roper

Cost of living crisis, recession, pandemic, war, climate change, Brexit, inequality…. Small firms and entrepreneurs are facing tumultuous times and governments and support systems are making huge decisions about how (and whether) to support them. But how much of our research is mobilised as evidence to shape enterprise ecosystems? And how can we mobilise evidence to be more influential?

In this session, ISBE Conference Chair, Prof Kiran Trehan will facilitate a conversation between two speakers and the ISBE membership via the medium of short presentations and plenty of discussion time to dig into the problem and come up with ideas. Prof Julia Rouse will share reflections from a year of building skills and community in the Engaged Scholarship Learning Lab and welcome your thoughts on ‘what’s next’ for our community? Prof Stephen Roper will share his learning from the process of developing the Enterprise Research Centre. Our aim is not just to collectively agree that engagement matters and we should do more, but to think about how that is possible, given our busy working lives. How can the ISBE community work together to make a step change in engaging research and creating influence?
