Established in 2025, the African Entrepreneurship CoI is a Community of Interest (CoI) of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (ISBE). It is open to both ISBE members and non-members.

Aims and Objectives

The African Entrepreneurship CoI aims to:

  • To explore and understand the unique challenges and opportunities of entrepreneurship in Africa.
  • To build a leading collaborative community that brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers focused on African entrepreneurship.
  • To provide a platform for sharing research, insights, and best practices related to African entrepreneurship.
  • To support the professional growth of early-career researchers and entrepreneurs through mentorship and networking.
  • To address critical issues faced by African entrepreneurs, including resource constraints, regulatory challenges, and market access.

These aims will be fulfilled through the following objectives:

  • Investigate the unique aspects of African entrepreneurship: What are the key challenges and opportunities specific to this context?
  • Evaluate the broader impact of these challenges on the entrepreneurial ecosystem: How do these issues interact with or affect other parts of the economy?
  • Prioritise key areas of research: Which issues are most critical for advancing entrepreneurship in Africa?
  • Consider the implications of policies on the entrepreneurial environment: How might interventions intended to address one challenge inadvertently create new problems?
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the entrepreneurial context in Africa.
