ISBE’s Special Interest Group (SIG) on SMEs and Growth: HEI as ‘Institutional Anchors’ is dedicated to fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange between Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), and other key stakeholders to drive sustainable growth and innovation for SMEs.

The SIG in SMEs and Growth: HEI as “Institutional Anchors” aims to:

Enhance the collaboration between SMEs and HEIs for mutual benefit.
Promote sustainable growth and innovation within the SME sector.
Investigate the role of HEIs in fostering the growth and development of SMEs.
Create a comprehensive understanding of the impact of HEIs on regional economic development through SME support.
Contribute to policy formulation aimed at improving the support mechanisms for SMEs through HEIs.

These aims will be fulfilled through the following objectives:

Identify best practices and successful models of HEI-SME engagement.
Explore the potential for HEIs to act as incubators and accelerators for SMEs.
Establish a network of stakeholders involved in HEI-SME collaborations.
Conduct empirical research on the effectiveness of current partnerships between SMEs and HEIs.
Analyze the economic impact of HEIs on local and regional SME growth.
Facilitate knowledge transfer and innovation through HEI-SME partnerships.

By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, we seek to create a dynamic platform for research, dialogue, and the development of best practices that can benefit both SMEs and HEIs.
