David has over 30 years’ experience of undertaking high quality qualitative and quantitative research with SMEs and entrepreneurs. He returned to the UK in May 2014 after a full time role at Massey University in New Zealand, holding a Chair in Small Business, and is the former Director of the New Zealand Centre for SME Research (NZSMERC). David retired from a full time academic role at the end of January 2014. Whilst Director of NZSMERC, from 1 September 2009 to 31 January 2014, he was the Principal Investigator and led a number of research projects undertaken for the New Zealand Government on SMEs including regulation, internationalization and innovation. He also completed high level consultancy and research projects for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) organisation and for the OECD. He has provided consultancy for a research project on Entrepreneurial Mentoring with colleagues at the Centre or Enterprise and Economic Development (CEEDR) at Middlesex University for Youth Business International and to a research project on Youth Entrepreneurship for Ernst & Young (Europe).
For 2019, he is currently working on a new introductory textbook for SAGE on Entrepreneurship, publication date January 2020.
