Robert Newbery is a Professor of Entrepreneurship and Head of the Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Strategy department at Newcastle Business School, Northumbria University. He has worked extensively in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America and has founded and run a number of entrepreneurial businesses having a PhD, MSc, MBA and BSc.
He is co-editor of the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research. He Chaired the 2019 Institute of Small Business and Enterprise (ISBE) conference in Newcastle (with 500+ delegates). He is joint Chair of the Rural Entrepreneurship Network (REN Special Interest Group) with ISBE and conducts research on rural entrepreneurship in UK, Europe and East Africa. His research interests are focused on international entrepreneurship, particularly in developing contexts, with publications in the Journal of Business Venturing and other highly ranked journals. He is a founder member of the Enterprise Education Foundation East Africa network (EEFEA). He is currently conducting research into the entrepreneurial experiences of people operating in ‘peripheral’ communities.
