This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. We are also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.

This role offers a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the University of Leeds community by nurturing a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students. This will directly support the University’s aspirations to be recognised as one of the top universities in Europe for student entrepreneurship by 2030.

The University of Leeds has a national reputation for student enterprise, having won a series of awards for its outstanding initiatives, including Spark and the Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies. The University now seeks to build on this success through a new phase in developing student enterprise opportunity for all students. This role forms a key part of this ambition.

You will play a central role in shaping the future of student enterprise through developing a ‘Discover’ programme that creates opportunities for students across the University to take their first steps in developing impactful new ideas and initiatives, practically developing their entrepreneurship and leadership skills and raising their awareness of opportunities for creating new ventures.

A key role will be to lead the development of a new initiative to support the potential for students to turn their ideas into real-world impact while providing appropriate financial support, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities. You will develop a programme encouraging applications from students across all disciplines to work in inter-disciplinary teams on developing their ideas through trial and error, managing access funds to support this as appropriate. You will recruit and manage a team of industry volunteer mentors who will support and advise students, lead a series of development workshops and support public dissemination of successful projects.

In addition to this key initiative, you will build on our initial ‘Discover’ programme to develop and steer a range of initiatives to drive the engagement of students across all faculties, to develop their skills, confidence and knowledge to develop new ideas, work with other students across disciplines on enterprising initiatives, ensure accessibility for all students  and support them in developing new ideas which may be taken forward into the new flagship initiative.

You will work closely with the established ‘Spark’ enterprise team, Academic Lead for Enterprise, Advancement Team, makerspaces and faculties to embed discover into the University strategy and drive engagement. This will include designing professional development programmes, such as an ‘Enterprise Champion’ initiative, to support staff in signposting students to discover student enterprise opportunities, linking to the University Student Opportunities and Futures Strategy.

As a new programme you will be able to rapidly assess and alter provision in response to student, staff and industry feedback and evaluate the impact of the work undertaken by the students and communicate this impact locally, nationally and internationally as appropriate.

In summary, this role as Student Enterprise Discover Manager at the University of Leeds offers a dynamic, impactful, and growth-oriented opportunity. It allows you to develop entirely new co-curricular programming, make a difference in students’ lives, and expand your skills and network within the field of entrepreneurship and innovation. It’s a role that combines professional development with personal satisfaction and a chance to shape the future of student entrepreneurship at the University.
